Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Bicycle Research and Development, the Composite Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing innovative, world-class tooling, composite product laminates and processes used in manufacturing of Easton bicycle products and components. He or she will be a member of a small team of specialty engineers and technicians who work in Easton-Bell Sports’ manufacturing facility located in Mexico.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and document tooling, molds, and or processing techniques used in the manufacturing of various production or prototype bicycle products.
- Develop optimized laminates, select materials, and processing path necessary to meet product performance specifications.
- Reverse engineer competitive products as needed to keep abreast of competitors methods, material and manufacturing abilities.
- Utilize 3D concept sketching and illustration, prototyping and computer aided industrial design to communicate design intent.
- Translate tooling designs into product solutions
- Develop and maintain clear and effective lines of communication with Easton-Bell Sports’ Scotts Valley location insofar as adhering to product specifications.
- Collaborate with Easton-Bell Sports Scotts Valley in development of new product introductions by determining what vendors, tooling, methods of manufacture, and facilities equipment are required to produce a particular product in scheduled quantities and at the lowest cost consistent with quality specifications.
- Provide product category ownership and support to assure that production quality is maintained throughout the product lifecycle
- Create and maintain systems to capture and communicate timelines and schedules to Easton teammates at all locations and to all vendors used in the manufacturing of Easton products.
- Collaborate with other departments both internal and external to provide new solutions and ideas to improve product manufacturing quality, product performance and development.
- Produce accurate and complete document packages for all projects and products, to ensure that design intent is carried out to our expectations
Background Sought:
- BS Mechanical Engineering or combination of education/experience that ensures proficiency in product design, manufacturing processes and methods.
- Minimum three to five years direct working experience in the manufacturing environment used to manufacture composite products
- Solid understanding of the following composite methods: High pressure bladder molding, resin transfer molding, molding with expanding and structural foams. Knowledge of composite pulltrusion would be a plus.
- Technical understanding of composite materials and resin systems
- A solid understanding of world-class product, tooling design and documentation used in the manufacturing environment
- Extensive understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques used to produce high-tech composite products
- Training in six-sigma is a strong plus
- High skill level in solid modeling, computer design, and FEA – preferably SolidWorks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
- Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
