Giro Fall 2009 Performance Eyewear Line; Havik 2 Offers Leading Performance with Refined Fit, Selector Lens Tints Enhance Vision in Challenging Light

(SANTA CRUZ, CA) AUG 10, 2009: Giro® is proud to announce the launch of their Fall 2009 collection of sunglasses, including the new HavikTM 2 performance sunglass, as worn by Tour de France Champion Alberto Contador. The complete Fall 2009 collection will be available at select Giro specialty outdoor, cycling and action sports retailers starting in September 2009.

“The Havik 2 is the result of more than a year of testing and feedback from our riders, including Contador, Christian VandeVelde, Tyler Farrar, Adam Craig, Levi Leipheimer, and more “said Eric Richter, Giro Sr. Brand Manager. “We built more than 40 prototypes to refine fit and improve comfort and performance for more riders. With the new Havik 2, we’ve increased the frame’s flex and reduced pressure at the temple tips by 33% to enhance long‐wearing comfort. We’ve also redesigned the brow piece for increased clearance from the forehead to further reduce chances of fogging and sweat dripping down inside the lens. And we’ve even enhanced style a bit with the addition of match‐painted nosepieces.”

  • HAVIKTM 2; Leading performance, fit and helmet compatibility for cycling. The injection molded frame is made in Italy and features an Italian‐made, 7‐base ZEISS Certified lens that provides best‐in‐class clarity and resolution while blocking 100% of harmful UV rays. The Havik 2 is available in 4 frame colors and multiple tint options, as well as Compact and Full lens cuts. MSRP ranges from $140.00 ‐ $200 depending on lens options.
  • ORANGE SELECTORTM and YELLOW SELECTORTM LENS TINTS; Giro is proud to introduce two new, proprietary performance lens tints developed in tandem with the world leader in optics, Carl Zeiss Vision. Orange Selector is designed for use in varying and low light conditions, and helps o enhance contrast and definition, especially for trail riding. Yellow Selector is designed for use in flat or low light conditions, and provides enhanced contrast and perception.  “The Orange and Yellow Selector lens tints enhance vision where and when athletes need it most, without significantly distorting color or visual accuracy,” says Eric Richter, Giro Sr. Brand Manager for Eyewear. “They provide exceptional clarity, razor sharp contrast and enhanced depth perception in flat‐ and low‐light conditions, which riders and other athletes need for maximum performance.”

ABOUT ZEISS CERTIFIED LENSES; ZEISS Certified lenses are made in Italy exclusively for Giro by the legendary experts at Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens. Each ZEISS Certified lens is formed in a proprietary diamond‐polished mold and subjected to rigorous testing, including analysis for compatibility with the frame and a 24‐point quality inspection to ensure compliance with ZEISS’ exceptionally high standards. This means that every single lens marked with the iconic “Z” provides clear, accurate vision without distortion, and meets or exceeds the toughest standards in the industry.
