Riddell, one of Easton-Bell’s most well-known brands, is a premier designer, developer and marketer of helmets and protective equipment used by professional and amateur athletes in team sports. Founded in 1929, Riddell is a household name in competitive sports, particularly well known as the Official Helmet of the NFL® and also for inventions that include removable cleats used in football, baseball and track shoes; the first seamless basketball; and suspension systems for football helmets. Today, Riddell is the leading manufacturer of football helmets, shoulder pads, reconditioning services (cleaning, repairing, repainting and recertifying existing equipment) and collectible helmets.

One of Easton-Bell’s many advantages in terms of maintaining an innovative and technological edge – particularly in the area of head protection – is that the company’s philosophy and standards are shared across all brands and divisions.  This “hub of excellence” enables the brands of Easton-Bell Sports, including Riddell, to be synergistic with process and design, sharing best protective technologies.

John Tate Riddell started this company in 1929 with a simple idea. It all started with the removable cleat, the brainchild of Riddell, who at the time was the head football coach and athletic director of Evanston Township High School. This innovation was just one of many Riddell “firsts” that revolutionized the sporting equipment landscape. In 1939, Riddell had another breakthrough, inventing the first plastic suspension helmet. Invented for the football field, the U.S. Government quickly saw its benefit for protecting troops in World War II.

When the Riddell Revolution helmet – the first helmet designed with the intent of reducing the risk of concussion – was introduced in 2002, it was the first major innovation in football helmets in 25 years.  In fact, the Riddell Revolution helmet is the only helmet that has independent, peer reviewed research (Neurosurgery, Feb. 2006, Vol. 58, No. 2), showing that it reduced the risk of concussion by 31 percent when compared to traditional helmets. Since its invention, over 1 million high school, college and pro players have made the switch from traditional helmets to the Revolution family of helmets.

VARSITY HELMETS:

  • Riddell VSR-4: Features traditional shell styling, inflatable liner (without comfort foam) and traditional Z-bar cages in a variety of styles.
  • Riddell Revolution Helmet: Introduced in 2002, the Riddell Revolution Helmet features Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology (CRT) and a higher profile shell (larger than the original VSR-4).  The Revolution’s CRT uses three principal design elements – an offset shell, mandible extensions and energy managing Z-Pads. The Revolution has an aero-cell liner design, a Tri-Curve protective shell made from Kra-Lite Polycarbonate Lexan shell material (making the helmet as light as possible without sacrificing any protective qualities), Tru-Curve front pad and occipital lock offering superior front-to-back fit and stability. ($177.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution IQ Helmet: The Riddell Revolution IQ Helmet combines the Riddell Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology (CRT) with the Ideal Fit Liner System and Quick Release Face Guard System. Ideal Fit cradles the player’s head within a cushion of air for comfort and stability. Quick Release cuts cage removal time by 50 percent. ($217.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution Speed Helmet: The Revolution Speed Helmet features built-in Riddell Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology, an aggressive new shell design and a comfortable anti-microbial Overliner. The Revolution Speed also features a new face mask system designed to optimize sightlines and Riddell’s proprietary push-button Quick Release Face Guard System to cut cage removal time by 50 percent. ($238.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution IQ HITS Helmet: This is the first individual helmet system that has all the benefits of the Riddell Revolution IQ, plus monitors and records every significant incidence of head impact sustained during games and practices – thanks to Riddell’s patented Head Impact Telemetry System (HITS). On-board electronics record every impact, allowing players to upload and evaluate each occurrence on their home computers. HITS also provides the guidance necessary to understand and address a suspect impact if it is detected. ($1,030.99 USD)

YOUTH HELMETS:

  • Riddell Attack Helmet: Riddell Attack combines the Revolution Shell profile with a co-polymer foam liner system to create a stable and comfortable youth helmet. The Attack also features Riddell Lightweight Face Masks that are up to 24 percent lighter than other face masks. ($75.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution Little Pro Helmet: The Revolution Little Pro is an entry level, fixed-size helmet with Riddell Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology built-in. ($83.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution Youth Helmet: Based on the same technology that made the varsity Riddell Revolution helmet possible, the Riddell Revolution Youth  Helmet features Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology (CRT) and a higher profile shell.  The Revolution’s CRT uses three principal design elements – an offset shell, mandible extensions and energy managing Z-Pads. ($138.99 USD)
  • The Riddell Revolution IQ Youth Helmet: The Riddell Revolution IQ Youth Helmet combines Riddell Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology with the Ideal Fit Liner System and Quick Release Face Guard System. ($168.99 USD)
  • Riddell Revolution Speed Youth Helmet: Just like its senior, the Revolutionary Speed Helmet, the Revolution Speed Youth Helmet features built-in Riddell Revolution Concussion Reduction Technology, an aggressive new shell design, a comfortable anti-microbial Overliner, a new face mask system designed to optimize sightlines and Riddell’s proprietary push-button Quick Release Face Guard System.
